Just like Romania, Bulgaria enjoyed a golden age during the 1990's, including a memorable 2-1 over Germany in 1994 World Cup quarter-finals.
The present is not as good...
Bulgaria failed to qualify to Euro 2008 and will now try to make amends and get to the world cup. Italy is the best team in the house, so Bulgaria and Ireland will fight for 2nd place. Bulgaria are well capable of fulfilling their goal, but they will have to make sure not to slip up at home in order to do so.
Bottom Line: Not getting to 2nd place should be considered as a failure.
